Reform, Rebuild and Revive Michigan

Posted by Mike Shirkey in categories Comments (0) • Permalink

Dear Friends,

I am humbled by the support and love displayed by the many people involved in this campaign. Whatever success we achieved was a result of the efforts of many. And being constantly covered in prayer. Thank you!

However, this election was not about ME, it was about WE.
Here in Michigan and across the nation the resounding message is "take us back to our Constitutional roots....restrained and limited government, valuing personal accountability and responsibility, and embracing the benefits and hopes offered by sensible free markets and capitalism."

Our mandate is to reform, rebuild and revive Michigan, together.

I look forward to serving with and for you!

Letter From Mike’s Children

Posted by Mike Shirkey in categories Comments (0) • Permalink

Our father is seeking to serve as the state rep for the 65th district. We have no doubt he will bring tremendous dedication and energy to the post and that he will do all within his power to support you, his constituents, while leading his fellow representatives towards wise choices for our state’s future.

Our dad has been an excellent example of servant leadership all of our lives as we have witnessed him as a father, grandfather, son, husband, coach, teacher, business leader, friend, community volunteer, board chairman, fundraiser, cheerleader, and constant initiator of new ideas. He will bring to Lansing creative thinking, strong family values, and the ability to make tough decisions when necessary.

Mike’s ninth grandchild is due in December. We know the baby will be excited to meet the world and to meet his/her grandpa, Mike Shirkey, the person we encourage you to vote for as your new state rep.

Start With One - Vote for Mike Shirkey

Posted by Mike Shirkey in categories Comments (0) • Permalink

When I first learned of Mike Shirkey's plans to seek the seat of the 65th District of the Michigan Legislature, my first thought was, "Why?" Why would a person who has clearly demonstrated such strong administrative skills in creating jobs in private business seek to be among 110 other legislators trying to set policy for the State of Michigan? Why would he subject himself to such a grueling and expensive endeavor as a long primary campaign in hopes of entering into yet another similar campaign for the general election? How could one person expect to make a difference in the overall direction of the State Legislature anyway? As I was mulling over some of these questions out loud with a prominent Brooklyn, Michigan businessman, he answered them in one short sentence, "We need to start with one."

When I asked Mike Shirkey similar questions, he answered, saying "I am not perfect. I have flaws and, like most of us, I have made mistakes." I could relate to what Mike was saying. We are imperfect people in an imperfect world and there are very few of us who can boast of being without flaws. "However," Mike continued, "because I believe the timing is right and that this is a unique opportunity to help make a difference for our State and for our community, I need to put my personal business goals aside for now and run for this office."

As I thought about what Mike said, that he was willing to put aside his personal business goals and to step up the challenge for the benefit of many, I was reminded of a saying I heard years ago about "one beggar trying to show another beggar where to find a loaf of bread." However, Mike is no beggar and he doesn't want the people of this State to be beggars either. Therefore, I believe he will apply his excellent business skills to create a business-friendly climate that will translate into more jobs for the people of the State of Michigan. That way, instead of begging for bread, we will once again be able to "make" our own "bread."

We can all benefit from Mike's talent. If you live in the 65th District, I believe you will help us all with a vote for mike shirkey on August 3. Remember, "We need to start with one." -Kerby Fannin

Voice of the People

We have watched career politicians decide the way to stimulate the economy was top down that insured failing financial houses and government agencies one last big haul of bonuses and gluttony and now have found that… well… that didn’t work. Now to protect their taxpayer paid fortunes from inflation, they say the only way out now is austerity programs and we’ll just have to tough it out with business closures, job losses, home foreclosures…broken families…

We desperately need those with ethics, real world work experience and an understanding that the only way out of these economic times, is through common sense law making that will encourage Michigan business growth, real jobs with good careers and laws that even the playing fields… so our products and manufacturing can reestablish our ability to defend American values and her peoples national interests… Most of government’s career politicians have cavalierly ignored the majority’s will and brought us to the brink of collapse on many fronts.

The battle starts NOW at home…please elect Mike Shirkey “A Michigan Man with a Heart for Michigan” -Rod Campbell

Michigan FairTax Initiative

Posted by Mike Shirkey in categories Comments (0) • Permalink

"It is my strong opinion, based on research done comparing states that have big tax appetites with states that do not, Michigan needs to send a dramatic message to the world and boldly restructure our tax policies and systems. The Michigan Fair Tax initiative is an excellent reference and starting point for debate and deliberation. Virtually everyone agrees we need more a more stabile and predictable tax revenue vehicle.  We DO NOT NEED MORE OR HIGHER TAXES, but we do need to evaluate how our taxes discourage risk taking, investment, family development, and our competitive landscape.

By taxing consumption and not taxing assets we begin down the road of whence we came:  a state that understood how to create wealth, promote and celebrate entrepreneurial efforts, and create opportunity and jobs.  Solid, value adding jobs capable of supporting and nurturing families.  The best health care, education, transportation, and general quality of life begin with establishing and nurturing an environment where families and businesses are attracted to live and grow. In that order.

I look forward to your comments on this topic, please add to the discussion here." - Mike Shirkey
